Monday 19, A beautiful clear morning with a real nip in the air, winters coming. Very little to report this morning, impala of course, at the top of jackal plains a herd that stretches all the way onto the 4 pylons and up to crooks corner, huge and then large and small herds just about wherever we go add 5 giraffe, along ingwe drive, to this morning drive.
Tuesday 20, A brisk cold breeze and overcast sky start the morning and it’s very much a repeat of yesterday game viewing the many impala about add a troop of baboon on the 4 pylons east of rhino hide and with them 6 wildebeest, 3 cows with their 3 calves. We meet Joan (52) and friends Mike and Jenny for a very enjoyable breakfast before heading back to the airstrip and back into HWE.
Wednesday 21, Heavy overcast to start but partly clears during the morning. Zebra are first up this am on the runway and across on warthog plenty of impala dotted about on the plains. I take the rwlr to the hyena turn off, more impala along here 4 old buff bulls, who reluctantly move off the road, go right at the single pylons and then along sable plains to the dam, just the odd impala, continue along mashatu drive for rhino where I bump into the Makare’s after enjoying a cuppa, they set off in the direction of the buff and I continue onto the 4 pylons, intending to head up the klaserie cutline, haven’t gone far when Brian calls in the 2 lioness and 5 cubs at the wallows, unfortunately not the greatest viewing. I return to the klaserie cutline and then take fungwe drive for
big, catch a herd of elephant just crossing the road and they soon disappear, nothing at big and just the odd impala and a lone giraffe along ingwe drive, do spot the pair of bateleur eagles busy grooming each other. Up to crooks corner, a mass of impala here and I head south along the 4 pylons passing impala herds both large and small and 3 zebra, cut in at the link road and wander back along zebra drive for the buff plains area in the hope I would spot the leopard that was called in earlier, no luck. Thats the morning.
Thursday 22, No drive.
Friday 23, No game drive as such, plenty of rain about, measure 66mms at HWE, we meet the Makare’s and Cesare’s for a farewell breakfast at the club house, they return to the states on Monday and we are off to KZN tomorrow.
Saturday 24, Rained all night and is still raining, another 40 mms, so over a 100 in the last 2 days, Fantastic.. That’s the lot for the moment, not sure when we will be back. We wish Everyone a Safe and Happy Easter.
