Monday 28 & Tuesday 29, At Satara in the KNP.
Wednesday 30, High cloud this am, giving me the briefest glimpse of the setting moon
and a little later the rising sun, looks like it may clear for awhile but soon clouds over once more and with a chilly wind from the south. I’ve just started on the dust road and in the lights of the landy, in the middle of the road two huge porcupine, I can’t remember when we last saw them, when we first moved to Olifants we often saw them, in fact in those early days we were always picking up their quills lying on the road, not to day though, we believe that the arrival of all the elephant may have something to do with their scarcity, anyway whatever, it was really great to see them. The next great spot, before I got to the control gate was a white faced owl, perched in a tree over looking the road, have included a pic, not great, and then the third interesting spot was one of the
spotted eagle owls in neil’s link with his kill, which he had partly eaten, a snake.
For the rest of the drive mostly impala, here there and everywhere, a troop of baboon close to rhino pan and with them 4 kudu and that sums up this morning drive.
Thursday 31, The weather, a repeat of yesterdays, cloudy to start and then clears up, but a pretty sunrise. Our drive starts with a bang, about half way to the control gate we spot 7 lion, a lioness with 6 s/a cubs, they seem to be almost full grown, all in excellent condition, they are walking along the fence line of Pridelands, we reverse some way to keep up with them before they drift off away from the road. The rest of the drive, very much the same as yesterday, just masses of impala all about, a troop of baboon in the 4 pylons close to rhino, a couple of jackal close to sand dam, 2 kudu bulls on warthog and at wild dog, besides the impala, a herd of 8 zebra, that’s our morning.
Friday 01 June 2018, Beautiful clear morning, with just odd cloud about and a little cooler this am. Well, heard lion calling as I was leaving the house, mostly likely from Pridelands, across the way and when I got to the top of the airstrip, heard lion calling down at warthog or palm, no sign of either lot. Things very quiet on Olifants at the moment, saw two giraffe and one zebra, just up from sand dam on my way to the 4 pylons, the only thing more than impala, and there were plenty everywhere, were the millions of Quelea, wow!!!
Sunday 03, A short week and pretty quiet as well. You all take care now.
