Monday 02, July 2018. A beautiful morning to start the week, we are not too far past the control gate when Shirleen spots this young male on the Tshukudu side of the road. Another fairly quiet morning once more, after leaving the garages we head along the e/e road in the direction of the office, just below Bev’s bench, a herd of elephant, we keep going hoping to find some lion up along the ridge where it was slightly warmer, no luck so we head down mica road for the flood plains, find a small herd of waterbuck, past the office and then along the palm drive for warthog, at the short cut a small herd of impala, more impala around warthog and a herd of 8 kudu on parallel clearing, then down hippo way and all the way along madrid to the end and here at 56 we stop off for T,C&R before heading up natures valley, impala and another herd of elephant. Nothing about at wild dog pan so across to the sable dam area, impala and a couple of kudu bulls and a large troop of baboon. We decide on Q’s corner for our breakfast. The morning is getting on so we head first for rhino pan along mashatu drive, impala scattered about then along wildebeest drive to sand, plenty of impala here as well as a small family of 4 hogs, we continue along kudu loop for hide, just masses of impala coming into drink and along mala lane 4 very impressive kudu bulls, finally back up the runway road, car swap and for a change plenty of game once we are passed the sliding gate, impala, kudu 8 giraffe and a couple of nyala.
Tuesday 03, Cold and a near gale force wind, but the family is only here for a short while so some of us go driving anyway, well masses of impala about and because of the wind most the herds all clumped together, a couple of families of warthogs, 3 giraffe along the rusermi cutline and kudu along the palm, mala drive, and close to hide dam and on parallel clearing. A lone elephant bull on the e/e road soon after we leave the garages. We are home early, not pleasant at all.
Wednesday 04, The cold overcast and very windy weather continues, so we decide to pop into the park for the day and in spite of the gale force wind and cold we enjoy some great
sightings.Thursday 05, The weather still inclement so we set off to Sabie for the day to check out Thomas & Jacqui’s new home, beautiful, right on the Sabie and then along to Graskop
Friday 06, A slight improvement in the weather but not a great deal to report on the game side, the usual impala, 3 giraffe close to hide and along the palm loop a herd of 6 kudu. Mario and Meagan join us for a delicious champs breakfast at 2 trees before we all head back into town.
Saturday 07, It’s the monthly market in The Hoed so no drive but do an evening drive on HWE, good general game and apparently a lone wild dog seen along the northern face line.
Sunday 08, Up at 03.00 to see the family off back to Collisheen in KZN after two wonderful weeks, nothing better than family. You all take care now.
