Monday 16, It’s another stunning winters morning to start the week, doesn’t last long though, around sevenish a gentle breeze starts up and in no time at all becomes a icy gale force wind bringing with it plenty of cloud cover which soon has us heading for home. With the icy wind one would have expected most of the game and in particular the impala would have all disappeared into the woodland, we do find a lot there, especially between big and double but the majority are all out on the open plains and along the 4 pylons, I know we always say we see masses of impala but this morning they were just everywhere, must say the large herds are always very impressive. Besides the impala, a couple of giraffe at rhino pan, a couple of warthog on buff plains and that’s about it for the drive.
Tuesday 17, The weather a carbon copy of yesterday, don’t feel like being frozen to death again, so we stay home.
Wednesday 18, The weather much the same, cold, overcast and windy. The game viewing much the same too, impala here there and everywhere, a elephant bull near natural pan, a mixed herd of 7 kudu on buff plains one and a giraffe, near the nyala tree at the palm office crossing carrying a large growth on his left back leg but moving quite easly, one wonders is that an old injury which has healed badly or some sort of growth? and that’s the lot for this morning drive.
Tuesday 24, A cold overcast morning to start slowly clears up during the morning. Game wise, the usual herds of impala about, 7 kudu bulls along mala lane, a giraffe and two zebra on buff plains one and a family of 4 warthog on three and then on our way out at the tunnel a couple of young bull elephants.
Wednesday 25, Back to a beautiful clear and icy cold morning once more and except for a herd of about twenty elephant along wildebeest drive the only other game we saw were impala and two zebra on buff plains two.
Thursday 26, Another stunning day, icy cold then warms up nicely. The few owners that are in were lucky enough to see the e/e lioness with 2, not sure you can call them S/A cubs anymore as they are almost the same size as mom, first on pels and then around idube pan, last night but no sign of them this morning. Impala, but not many out on the plains but tucked away in the woodlands, think because of the cold and a giraffe and waterbuck bull along the railway road.
Friday 27, No drive this morning unless we were prepared to go all the way round to the North Entrance the reason being that over the last few days some heavy equipment has been removing cut up railway line sections and one of the semi’s with heavy load jack knifed going down into the mahlalabetzi, blocking the road completely, only cleared during the day. Of course the eclipse this evening, we call it a day around 10pm,quite impressive
Saturday 26, Beautiful morning to start but at around 8 or so a strong gusty and cold wind gets up from the south. Game wise much the same as the rest of the week, impala all bout, a lone giraffe on snake alley and 5 kudu bulls along mala lane.
During the week we’ve enjoyed some great viewing of various birds coming into feed on the flowering cactus’s and drinking at the bird bath, thought we would share some pics
Sunday 29, The week ends with a mild overcast day, a slow week all in all.
You all take care now. R&T, N&M. 🐘🐘🐘
