Sunday 19, This evening we pop into Olifants, with friends from HWE, Deon, Sue and Dan to listen to a wonderful talk on Elephants by Dr Michelle Henley from Elephants Alive, a most interesting and informative talk on all aspects about them. Then later we all enjoyed boery rolls and drinks. For more information go to. email@example.com where you can find out and follow their very important work with the elephants. Like all NGO’s finances are always of concern so please think about a donation to help with their work with the Ellies.
Tuesday 21, A cool, clear morning, not a cloud to be seen. First up this morning, crossing the mahlabetzi the landies lights pick up, 8 buffalo bulls making their way down to the river. As usual there’s hardly anything about to start but as it warms up more and more impala appear out of the woodland onto the open areas and around the different waterholes, besides them not a great deal else seen, a couple of kudu bulls near rhino, a troop of baboon on the single pylons and a couple of warthog on buff plains two. We
miss the lions which were called in near mala lane later in the morning. While sitting on the wall of double dam, enjoying a cuppa and the warm sun, there were masses of blue waxbills, fire finches, etc all coming down to drink and have a quick dip, took this short video of these two cleaning themselves after a quick swim.
Wednesday 22, A light breeze springs up during the night so we awake to heavy overcast which tries unsuccessfully to clear up during the day and keeps the day cool, we do enjoy a nice sunrise, on our way in though. A very very quiet drive this am, even the impala were few and far between, the only herd of any size on kudu loop near hide, a family of 4 warthogs on buff plains 3 and a lone giraffe near sable dam completes the drive.
Thursday 23, No drive.
Friday 24, The alarm pops at 4, I go out on the deck to check the weather, a crystal clear sky, a billion stars, and the almost full moon sliding away in the west but in the hour or so it takes us to get into Olifants a complete change, a strong and cold wind gets up and it becomes completely overcast, we even get a spit and a spot, The usual impala about a couple of kudu bull along mala lane and we run along the klaserie cutline to see if there is any action at the rhino carcass, which was shot a couple of days ago, hundreds of vultures of course, 6 hyena and 4 jackal, some distance from the roads no pics I’m afraid.
Sunday 26, Beautiful day to end the week, You all take care now.
