Monday 21, As I set off this morning I can see the full moon sliding away to the west, an absolutely crystal clear morning, but a real nip in the air, a big change after last weeks 26/27 deg’s at 5 in the morning. A little later a stiff breeze gets up from the south, which keeps it nice and cool. First up this am, a s/a hyena, running up the railroad ahead of me, soon after the control gate, slips off under one of the culverts and into tshukudu. Oilants this morning extremely quiet, yes impala herds, all about , some huge others just normal. a lone giraffe on buff plains 2, a couple of zebra at the top of the airstrip, 4 more on hide loop and that’s about the lot. find a dark chanting gos with a blue headed lizard clutched in his talons, not the easiest skin to get through. Bumped into Lawrence at hide for a quick chat and on the way out a chameleon crosses the road to end the drive.
Wednesday 23, Change today, into the Park for the day and as usual the Kruger doesn’t disappoint, of the big 5, only rhino missing, the lion and buffalo, partly hidden by thick bush, not worth a pic, otherwise plenty of elephants and a lone leopard and of course just masses of general game. A collage of some of what we saw below.
Friday 25, Heavy overcast to start the day, it slowly clears during the morning, swop and
head up to wild dog, finding some impala and a lone jackal with a skinny tail, take tsikisor for the sable crossing and then onto sable dam then via the short cut behind sable dam for rhino, impala here and there, along zebra way for buff plains 3 &2 and
down to nkhonkoni dam, just the odd impala, two giraffe on the plains, we continue over to hide, more impala and another giraffe plus a troop of baboon. We take hide loop and find plenty of impala on the plains stretching towards the sunset parking, we continue on sunset drive going right onto the 4 pylons and here we a herd of 11 wildebeest and their 7 calves, great sighting. So msimbi dr. and left down bush willow dr. for double , here a very large herd of impala are all around the dam. Along bateleur dr. for big, where we stop for our breakfast and again another huge herd are all around the dam. While sitting enjoying our breakfast Sean, Unit 69, calls in a leopard in one of the weeping boerbean, just across the palm from the rubbing post. We head off for the sighting, holding out little hope he will still be there when we arrive, crossing the 4 pylons, more impala, a family of 5 hogs, and a troop of baboon, moving down towards
sand and at the dam a giraffe, so along wildebeest drive and then right onto zebra way and finally down snake alley and of course we are almost there when he comes down the tree and disappears into thick bush, chat to Sean for bit, he’s enjoyed a great view so moves on, we do a bit of a search, even going along as far as Q’s, hoping we will pick him across the palm, zip, so head back to the tree, and luck is with us he appears on the termite before he crosses the road and moves up along mashatu dr. lose him again, so drive ahead but no sign , so it’s getting late so head back to the tree and there he is back in the tree, cunning , enjoy the pics . That’s the lot.
Sunday 27, Good rains last night, 17mms. All for the week, you all take care now.
