Saturday 29, The blog has been very quiet over the last few weeks, partly because we have been away in the park, as usual an excellent visit both at Letaba and then at our favourite bush camp, Sirheni, right up in the north, wonderful general game and around Sirheni in particular, buffalo and elephant in huge herds, surprisingly the only 2 cats we
saw were, a cheetah at a distance and a beautiful caracal close to the road near Letaba, no pic unfortunately, very early, poor light. The other reason is that Olifants is at the moment pretty quiet, just the usual suspects. I have a base station in my house at HWE so I’m able to pick up on any sightings and it’s been very slow, the odd sighting of lion, the lion mostly called from north and of course elephant. A rhino with calf, still with a horn was quickly dealt with and in spite of all the horns?? being removed the Olifants APU has still having to deal with incursions.
This last Thursday we pop in and enjoyed some good sightings, 2 leopard, one very fleetingly, crossed the road as we were going down pels pass and the other on buff plains 2, where in fact there were 2 leopard, mother and young cub, but we only saw the
mother and also a hyena made an appearance, unit 3 who called the sighting in said they were both in a tree with their kill, but by the time we got there the youngster was hiding and the mother slunk off and into thick bush. Passing idube we spot a herd of elephant just moving off, for the rest the usual impala, a troop of baboon along pels, all cuddled together, trying to get/stay warm as it’s pretty cold, a couple giraffe around hide dam
Sunday 30, A magnificent day to end the month of June, half the year gone already, hopefully July will be more productive , that’s the lot.
